Theo Goodin is a Senior Market Conduct Examiner for the Alabama Department of Insurance. He is also the State Chair for the Insurance Regulatory Examination Society (IRES) of Alabama. He has over 24 years of experience in insurance regulation and market oversight. He holds the AIE (Accredited Insurance Examiner) designation, which he has maintained for the past 10 years, as well as the MCM (Market Conduct Manager) designation for 18 years, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to professional excellence and industry best practices.
A graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery, Theo earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Management of Information Systems, blending strategic business knowledge with technical expertise. This dual perspective equips him to analyze complex regulatory issues with precision and insight.
Throughout his career, Theo has led numerous high-impact examinations, promoting compliance, transparency, and consumer protection in the insurance marketplace. Known for his integrity, attention to detail, and collaborative approach, he works closely with insurers, regulators, and industry partners to elevate standards and support ethical conduct across the sector.
As State Chair of IRES in Alabama, he is also a strong advocate for regulatory education and peer development, helping to mentor and empower the next generation of insurance examiners.
Amy is a partner in the Birmingham office, where she focuses her practice on real estate litigation with a particular interest in title insurance coverage and curative issues. She is also experienced in representing title insurers in litigated and non-litigated matters. Amy has experience with various areas of commercial litigation, including representing financial institutions, manufacturers and hotels. Amy has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by SuperLawyers in business litigation and banking law. Amy maintained an AV-Preeminent Judicial Edition rating by Martindale-Hubbell. She regularly presents seminars on title insurance law in Alabama.
Douglas R. Bachuss, Jr. is Area Counsel for Fidelity National Financial and a former member of Nowlin, Bachuss & Gray Law Firm with offices in Decatur and Huntsville practicing in the areas of commercial and residential loan closings, real estate development, probate law, adoptions, estate planning, contract law, and business organizations since 2000. Doug received his Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Alabama in 1991 and in 1992 and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1996, also working with the Men’s basketball teams from 1988 to 1992 when the teams won three (3) consecutive SEC tournament championships. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar and a member and a past president of the Morgan County Bar, and he has been a frequent speaker on topics related to real estate closings, estate planning, adoptions, and servant leadership.
Doug is a current member and Vice-President of the Decatur City Schools Board of Education and is a Past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce. He is a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Morgan County program through the Chamber, is a graduate of Class XXVI of Leadership Alabama, and is a member of the current Board of Leadership Alabama. He is a member of the Land Title Association of Alabama and serves on the Legislative Committee for the Southeast Land Title Association. Doug is also a past Chairman of the board and is current legal counsel for the Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority and is a Past President of the Board of CASA of North Alabama, Inc., an organization that investigates the situations of children in juvenile cases in Morgan and Limestone Counties. Doug is a past chair of the Affiliate Council of the Morgan County Association of Realtors and was the 2012 and 2022 Member of the Year for the Association. In addition, Doug is a 2022 inductee into the Morgan County Leadership Hall of Fame and was selected as a 2022/2023 Main Street Hero by Main Street Alabama. Doug currently serves as legal counsel for The Circle Ranch, and has served on the board of Hospice of the Valley and boards and committees for the Tennessee Valley Outreach Rescue Mission, the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama, the American Cancer Society, the Morgan-Lawrence County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Decatur City Schools Foundation, and the Greater Morgan County Homebuilders Association. Doug was the President of the Decatur Middle School PTO from 2017 to 2019 and served as a “Homeroom Dad” for his son’s Fourth Grade class.
Doug and his wife, Jenny, have three (3) children, Ty, Jennalei, and Joshua. He and his family are residents of Decatur where they attend LifePointe Church in Decatur. Doug is a former Sunday School teacher. In addition, he has coached youth baseball, basketball, and softball.
Edgar is a lifelong resident of the Shoals and is the son of one of the firm’s founders, Marcel Black. Edgar received a degree in English from the University of Alabama, and attended law school at Cumberland School of Law. Edgar is also a graduate of Leadership Shoals and the Alabama State Bar’s Leadership Forum.
Patrick Glaze is the Assistant To The Special Agent-in-Charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s Birmingham Field Office, where he directs the agency’s criminal investigations for the Northern District of Alabama. ATSAIC Glaze’s Secret Service career began in Los Angeles before spending ten years in Washington D.C., where he was assigned to the Washington Field Office, the Counter Assault Team (CAT), and the Presidential Protective Division (PPD). ATSAIC Glaze is a 2004 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law. Prior to joining the Secret Service, he was an Assistant District Attorney for Tuscaloosa County, AL. He resides in Birmingham with his wife and four children.
Join us for an in-depth exploration of complex financial crimes, with a particular focus on wire fraud and seller’s frauds from the Federal Law enforcement perspective. This presentation will provide professionals with insights into the intricacies of these crimes, including their methodologies, and common schemes. By the end of this session, attendees will have gained a deeper understanding of the detection, prevention, and legal ramifications of wire fraud and seller fraud, equipping them with the knowledge necessary to navigate these complex issues in their legal practice.
Charles C. Woodroof has served as the Probate Judge of Limestone County since January 2013, having been elected in November 2012, and re-elected in 2018 and in 2024. Mr. Woodroof currently serving as President of the Alabama Probate Judges Association, and has been a partner at Woodroof & Woodroof Attorneys at Law in Athens, Alabama for more than 16 years prior to being elected Probate Judge. His primary areas of legal practice were real estate transactions and probate law. He worked five years as Assistant Director of Media Relations for the Southeastern Conference following graduation from Auburn University, where he worked four years as a student assistant in the Sports Information Office of the Auburn Athletic Department. Mr. Woodroof was born and raised in Athens, Alabama, and has been married for more than 25 years and has two sons.
Will Hereford is a real estate litigation and creditor’s rights attorney with Burr & Forman in Birmingham practicing in the Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy Practice Group. He has a concentrated focus on real property title issues, real property tax liens, and ejectment/quiet title cases. He is experienced in construction, commercial, bankruptcy and landlord tenant litigation. Will’s experience relating to ad valorem tax sales spans from the beginning of the tax sale process (advising clients relating to the rights of purchasers and concerning investment funding) to the end of the process (clearing of title and disposition of acquired properties), and everything in between. For over fifteen years he has regularly represented tax sale purchasers, owners, and holders of liens against properties sold for taxes. He has cleared title to hundreds of properties through ejectment/quiet title cases, and in the process, resolved issues relating to abandoned property, bankrupt property owners, lien priority issues (involving IRS liens, mortgages, judgment liens, homeowner and condo association liens, and municipal liens), challenges to tax sales, claims to excess/surplus funds, and disputed redemption rights. His other extensive experience includes creditor representation in bankruptcy cases, representing businesses and individuals in commercial landlord tenant litigation, and representing contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in construction claims, disputes and litigation. Will has counseled and regularly represented investors, owners, and mortgagees, with respect to issues relating to tax liens and tax deeds concerning properties in Alabama, and through licensed counsel, properties in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. He has pursued and completed title clearing steps on hundreds of real properties, including mineral interests, primarily through quiet title and ejectment lawsuits, with some properties involving tax sales that occurred decades ago. In 2011, he was appointed as Special Master in a Jefferson County, Alabama class action lawsuit to recommend and implement procedures to address claims to approximately 900 unclaimed excess bids paid at Jefferson County tax sales between May 1999 and May 2007. His efforts in this case also led to corrections in the county’s procedures, which, if not corrected, could have caused losses of more than a million dollars. Will is listed in The Best Lawyers in America®: “Lawyer of the Year” in Litigation – Real Estate (2019), in The Best Lawyers in America®: Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law since 2010; and has a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating.
