Member Highlight: Douglas R. Bachuss, Jr.

Douglas R. Bachuss, Jr. is a member of Nowlin, Bachuss & Gray Law Firm with offices in Decatur and Huntsville practicing in the areas of commercial and residential loan closings, real estate development, probate law, adoptions, estate planning, contract law, and business organizations since 2000. Doug received his Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Alabama in 1991 and in 1992 and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1996, also working with the Men’s basketball teams from 1988 to 1992 when the teams won three (3) consecutive SEC tournament championships. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar and a member and a past president of the Morgan County Bar, and he has been a frequent speaker on topics related to real estate closings, estate planning, adoptions, and servant leadership.
Doug is a current member and Vice-President of the Decatur City Schools Board of Education and is a Past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce. He is a 2008 graduate of the Leadership Morgan County program through the Chamber, is a graduate of Class XXVI of Leadership Alabama, and is a member of the current Board of Leadership Alabama. He is a member of the Land Title Association of Alabama and serves on the Legislative Committee for the Southeast Land Title Association. Doug is also a past Chairman of the board and is current legal counsel for the Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority and is a Past President of the Board of CASA of North Alabama, Inc., an organization that investigates the situations of children in juvenile cases in Morgan and Limestone Counties. Doug is a past chair of the Affiliate Council of the Morgan County Association of Realtors and was the 2012 and 2022 Member of the Year for the Association. In addition, Doug is a 2022 inductee into the Morgan County Leadership Hall of Fame and was selected as a 2022/2023 Main Street Hero by Main Street Alabama. Doug currently serves as legal counsel for The Circle Ranch, and has served on the board of Hospice of the Valley and boards and committees for the Tennessee Valley Outreach Rescue Mission, the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama, the American Cancer Society, the Morgan-Lawrence County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Decatur City Schools Foundation, and the Greater Morgan County Homebuilders Association. Doug was the President of the Decatur Middle School PTO from 2017 to 2019 and served as a “Homeroom Dad” for his son’s Fourth Grade class.
Doug and his wife, Jenny, have three (3) children, Ty, Jennalei, and Joshua, he and his family are residents of Decatur, they attend Life Pointe Church in Decatur, and Doug is a former Sunday School teacher. In addition, he has coached youth baseball, basketball, and softball.
