LTAAL Abstractor Apprenticeship Committee: 2026 Outlook

By Stephanie Burton, River Region Title, Chair

As we look ahead to 2026, the Apprenticeship Committee is adopting a new approach to build momentum for the program. With the help of Anna Batten, we have already secured four agents with in-house abstractors who have volunteered to hire and train interns starting this summer.

Our goal is to increase awareness by targeting local high schools and community colleges through job fairs and career days. Our industry is currently struggling to replace experienced local abstractors, largely because many young people are simply unaware that this career path exists. By engaging with students directly as they begin making decisions about their futures, we can highlight professional opportunities that do not necessarily require a traditional four-year degree.

While a statewide presence in every county is currently beyond our manpower, we are starting at the community level. We hope to empower committee members to serve as voices for the profession within their own local areas throughout the coming year by career days or job fairs.

Reminders: Member Benefit: Please encourage your abstractor contacts to join the association. For an annual fee of $100, new members can attend the Mid-Winter Conference in Florence next month for free.

And if your office would like to host an intern this summer, please contact us for more information.
