IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MORGAN COUNTY PROBATE JUDGE CAIN!

Many of you may already be aware of the upcoming closure of the Morgan County Courthouse for renovations. The courthouse will be closed beginning February 16, 2026, for an estimated period of two to four weeks. During this time, the public records room will not be accessible to the public. I know many of you rely on access to these records to conduct your business. I am providing this information so that you may consider including appropriate language in your real estate contracts to allow some flexibility in your closing dates due to any issues that may be attributed to the courthouse closure.
Online records will continue to be available at www.morgancountyprobate.com except for January 15, 2026. On that day, our records vendor and the Morgan County IT Department will be moving our servers in preparation for the closure. We are anticipating the outage will only be for a brief period of time.
Please also note that our office will remain open but will be relocating to the old MCATS building at 401 2nd Ave SE, Decatur, AL 35601. During the renovation, we will only conduct emergency court hearings. However, we will continue to accept and record documents.
