LTAAL Joins Alabama Association of Realtors® for REALTOR® Day at the Capitol

On January 20, members of the Land Title Association of Alabama (LTAAL) joined hundreds of Alabama REALTORS® in Montgomery for REALTOR® Day at the Capitol. The annual event brings real estate professionals together with state leaders as the legislative session gets underway and offers a valuable opportunity to connect, learn, and advocate for the future of our industry.
As legislators returned to the State House, attendees heard updates from legislative leaders, political analysts, agency officials, and other key voices in state government. Panel discussions highlighted issues shaping Alabama’s real estate landscape and reinforced the importance of informed, professional advocacy.

LTAAL was especially proud to see one of our own represented in the program. Cynthia Almond, owner of Capitol Park Title in Tuscaloosa and current President of the Alabama Public Service Commission, served on a panel during the event. Her participation underscored the depth of experience within our industry and the meaningful role title professionals can play in public service and policy discussions at the state level.
LTAAL was well represented throughout the day by title agents and underwriters from across Alabama, demonstrating our association’s ongoing commitment to collaboration and legislative engagement. Attending on behalf of LTAAL were Mark Davis with Ball, Ball, Matthews & Novak, P.A.; Justin Edwards with The Law Firm of Edwards & Edwards; April Smith with Smith Closing & Title; Lauren Baum Malbrough with David P. Condon, P.C.; Jason Forbus with Davidson Davidson Umbach & Forbus, LLC; David Higginbotham with Westcor Title; and Kristi Holzimmer with FNF Family of Companies.

As a title agent led association, LTAAL naturally shares many priorities with the Alabama Association of REALTORS®. Both organizations are focused on protecting buyers and sellers, promoting professionalism, and ensuring a real estate transaction process that is efficient, transparent, and secure. One of our most important shared concerns is the increasing threat of fraud in the home buying process, particularly seller impersonation fraud and wire fraud. These challenges cannot be addressed by one group alone. Preventing fraud requires awareness, coordination, and vigilance from everyone involved, from listing through closing, and REALTOR® Day at the Capitol served as a strong reminder of how valuable that partnership truly is.

LTAAL was also pleased to support AAR’s advocacy efforts by sponsoring a table at the event. While a small gesture, it reflects our appreciation for the work REALTORS® do every day and for AAR’s leadership in advancing thoughtful, responsible real estate policy across Alabama.
Perhaps most importantly, REALTOR® Day at the Capitol highlighted why active participation in our profession matters. LTAAL’s mission, to assist members and their customers in conveying real estate interests efficiently and responsibly while adhering to the highest professional standards, depends on members who are willing to engage, share their expertise, and help shape the future of our industry.
If you work in the title or closing space and are not yet involved with LTAAL, now is the time to get connected. Membership is just the first step. LTAAL offers meaningful opportunities to serve, including roles on the Legislative Committee, Liaison Committee, Membership Committee, and the critically important Abstractor Apprenticeship Committee. These committees do the real work of education, advocacy, and building the next generation of professionals in our industry.
When REALTORS® and title agents work together, and when industry professionals step up to actively participate through organizations like LTAAL, we strengthen not only our profession, but the protections and confidence we provide to Alabama’s buyers and sellers. As a member of LTAAL, I encourage you to join, get involved, and be part of the work that keeps our industry strong.
