Alabama Probate Judges Association Conference

By Matthew R. Harrison, Harrison Gammons

The Alabama Probate Judges Association held a training conference at the Embassy Suites in Huntsville from February 15 – 18. Many Probate Judges, Chief Clerks, and office staff attended from counties across the state. In keeping with our effort to build good relationships with Probate Judges, The Land Title Association of Alabama (LTAAL) sponsored the event. Theresa Bayer, Kyle Pierce, and I manned the table for LTAAL and answered questions about the role of LTAAL, as well as encouraged membership in LTAAL from the attendees.

Near the end of the conference, I was able to speak on behalf of LTAAL and remind the audience of our desire to collaborate with the Probate Judges and staff across the state to partner in our efforts to serve our mutual clients/constituents. I plugged the benefit of free membership in LTAAL for Probate Judges, and many seemed eager to join. During our brief time, I was also able to thank Judge Woodruff (Limestone County), Judge Cain (Morgan County), and Judge Barger (Madison County) for their recent contributions to LTAAL as a speaker on Probate matters at prior LTAAL conferences.

While at our table, I had the opportunity to speak with several different Probate Judges and Chief Clerks to share the goal of LTAAL as it relates to their offices. Many also seemed eager to consider practical goals like requiring “source of title” references on recordable instruments.

I have no doubt that LTAAL’s presence at the Alabama Probate Judges Association training conference was beneficial as we continue to introduce our mission and promote the benefits of collaboration with the Probate Offices across Alabama. Your LTAAL Board is already making plans to participate in the next Alabama Probate Judges Association training conference later this Spring.
